    Editorial Review:

    Product Description:
This edition of the Didache contains original Greek text and a contemporary, smooth English translation set forth in parallel fashion.

The Didache, that is, The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles (Διδαχὴ τῶν δώδεκα ἀποστόλων), is an anonymous writing. The Didache was a favorite treatise in the early Church. Some deemed it an “inspired” text - Clement of Alexandria, Origen, and Didymus the Blind used it as sacred Scripture, while Eusebius placed it among the νόθα, or “spurious writings” (HE 3.25.4).

In 1873 Philotheos Bryennios discovered the full text of the Didache in Constantinople. It was part of an 11th century manuscript, a small volume of some 120 parchment leaves, composed in Greek. This collection also included the Epistles of Barnabas, Clement, and a number of the letters of Ignatius.

A wide range of dates has been proposed for this document. Some put it before AD 50, others to the third century or later. Some regard it as the oldest example of Christian literature outside the New Testament; others put it no earlier than the middle of the second century.
